This project is a four phase construction project. Phase 1, when completed over a seven year period will provide service between the new 96th, 86th, and 72nd Street stations along 2nd Avenue and connect to the existing 63rd Street Lexington Avenue line station. The present work, under contract one includes the construction of tunnels between 92nd and 63rd Streets for the construction of a launch box for the tunnel boring machine and access shafts at 69th and 72nd Streets. Surface work includes trenching, utility relocations, and street reconstruction.
As part of the WSP Parsons team for this initial phase, Hirani provided safety engineering services to monitor construction operations compliance with the site safety program, tunnel operations safety, and the use of explosives.
