MTA Bridges and Tunnels
- Concrete Deck
- Steel Girders
- Toll Plazas
The 70 year old Bronx – Whitestone Bridge has recently undergone a major rehabilitation of the Bronx and Queens approaches. The four year project was divided into three stages, and is widening the roadway and supporting structure. The project required traffic control for the maintenance of five plaza traffic lanes during rush hour. The entire existing roadway of the Bronx and Queens sides were completely replaced.
As part of the GPI/Parsons Joint Venture Team, Hirani inspection personnel inspected the construction of new foundations and 15 double-arched concrete piers to support the widened roadway, the construction of steel girders and concrete deck. The roadway was upgraded to 12 lanes with adequate shoulders, eliminating 1930 era narrow width roadways.
